Kansas Town’s Green Dreams Could Save Its Future

I am so impressed with what this town is accomplishing in the aftermath of a natural disaster. I think everyone should be aware of their story. It is a great example of what a new perspective and and a little initiative can accomplish. I am looking forward to following their progress into the future.

“Wallach says residents here embraced environmental sustainability as good old-fashioned thrift and independence. “They really get it, and they say ‘OK, it’s not this crazy tree-hugger agenda.’ It’s common sense, and it’s what these people are really about,” Wallach said.”

This is a quote from an NPR story from “All Things Considered” aired last month about a Kansas town that was wiped out by a tornado in May. They have come together as a town to rebuild homes, offices and city buildings with environmental sustainability as their first priority. They are using the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating Systemâ„¢ as a guide (click on U.S. Green Building Council under BLOGROLL on the left for more information). They set the bar high and so far, they’re well on their way to reaching it.
