My initial motivation behind this weblog is to incite a down to earth conversation about what changes we, as individuals, can make in our daily lives to live just a little bit “greener.” I would love to get together and solve the problems of Global Warming and create peace in the Middle East, but I don’t think that is my strength. If it is yours, quit playing around on the internet and get to it!

This blog is a product of my continuing struggle to live up to three of my fundamental beliefs, cliche as they may be: “Think Globally / Act Locally,” “Lead by Example,” and be engaged in your personal responsibilities. I would like to be part of growing community that implements new practices in their daily lives such that they become the norm. I would like this new version of normal to set an example and/or demonstrate an alternative to my family, friends and neighbors. I know that I have not minimized my net impact to many important aspects of the world we live in to my full potential and I believe it is my responsibility to work to improve in this area.

Sooooo…I will use Baby Steps to Green propose an idea, every week or so, for implementing a small change in how we conduct our day to day lives to live just a little bit more eco-friendly. Of course many of you will already be doing some of these things, and some of the suggestions may not be so small for your particular lifestyle at this time. All those things are fine. Don’t let them bog you down at all. They say it takes 21 days of consistency to establish (or break) a habit. If this is true, if you average any more than one a month you have beaten all reasonable expectation.

Just taking the time to think about it for a few minutes each week will help raise awareness. Maybe you look at something you already do just a little bit closer. Maybe you begin to question something that seemed obvious before. And of course, if you happen to bring it up in conversation, then the awareness spreads all the faster! Please share these experiences in this blog. If this catches on with even a small group of us, I’m confident we will stimulate thoughts and ideas that we might not have stumbled across for years to come otherwise. I bet you’ll have baby steps of your own to suggest in no time!
